The Dairy Industry: PSA

The poster is made to make people think about the expression “don’t cry over spilled milk” when in fact, we should be crying.

Female cows are repeatedly artificially inseminated to create a constant supply of milk for humans. Their babies are removed right after birth without the chance to bond or nurse from their mothers. The babies are fed a milk substitute while humans consume the milk meant for them. The female calves are raised to do the same as their moms and the male calves become byproducts (veal, dog food, leather products, etc.) of the dairy industry.

A cow’s life expectancy is around 20 years but due to the harsh conditions and enduring process they are put through time after time, they only live to be around 5 if they are lucky.

Additionally, their living conditions aren’t humane. They are packed into stalls covered in their waste. If they do get ill, they are given steroids, antibiotics, and other medicines that us humans then consume through their milk.

Humans are the only species that consumes milk beyond infancy and from other species. While this doesn’t mean the dairy industry should be eliminated, stricter regulations to protect animal welfare and increased consideration of dairy alternatives are needed.
